The intention of the design is based on the equipment provided by Martin Professional. By utilizing the opportunity to control multiple types of fixtures at the same time, and simultaneously adding music as an additional sensory dimension, the direction of the design is synchronizing lights with the musical frequencies and amplitudes, and thus create an amplified musical experience. However, instead of merely emphasizing the experience of the audience, the real focus in this project is on the person who controls the lights.

By mapping computer key buttons to different light settings, the intention is focuses more on the relationship between the controller (the person in front of the computer) and the sound i.e. how the controller interprets the sound and how he thinks the lights should react to it. In this way, the experience will be different from person to person, and the synchronization between sound and light (from the audience’s experience) will depend on the interpretation of the “light musician”

The visual effects that was intended came from analysing the song Muse - unsustainable. After dividing the song into different parts, three primary sections were identified: One section that was building up to a climax - to illustrate this, the intentions were to use a variation of colors altering continuously. Some of the colors complimenting each other - some of the colors opposing each other - to support the tension in the song.

The second primary section in the song is the actual climax. Here, the level of energy in the sound, was intended to be met with a similar degree of intensity in light levels. This would require a large number of fixtures to be lit, with high intensity and in white (since white is all wavelengths and thus the visually strongest).

The third primary section was a melodic after piece which both contained some of the strength from the climax, som melodic build up and some of the tension from the first section. With white-blue as the theme color of our installation, this color was used for the melodic section - implying pitch changes through height of positioned fixtures. This, in a combination with the design for climax and tension was deemed appropriate for covering the most important bits in the song.

The climax in the song was visualized through both the ADJ Mega Tri Bar and the Cameo LED Multi PAR - lighting the space with high intensity of cold white.

Using blue-white from both the ADJ Mega Tri Bar and the Cameo LED Multi PAR divided the space into floor sections by visualizing the experience of pitch change and melody.

Using the flow function of the ADJ Mega Tri Bar, providing a continuous change in color, and starting from ground floor and adding up to the 4th floor, the tension and build-up of the song was supported.
